I love everything about this story. The first meeting in the gardens. The slow tour. The even slower and erotic details of the open air baths. And more, the subtle creeping in of the ghosts of their past...Laurant's griefs and dark deeds with Damen, as well as Damen's subtle tremors at the memories of abuse. These issues must be addressed. And they were without being heavy-handed, yet with complete and satisfying empathy and understanding between these two kings.My favorite line: The one that says Laurent's walls still went up sometimes but now Damen was always within them. (I'd quote this exact but don't have the story in front of me as I write this.I only had one question. Why were they apart before meeting in the summer palace? Why was Laurent there first and Damen riding to meet him? Why did they not travel there together? This may look like three questions but it's really one. And it is not a criticism. Just wondering.I truly loved this and the entire trilogy is, for me, worth reading over and over.
