This is the story of Captain Dudley “Mush” Morton, and the crew of The USS Wahoo in the War against Japan. He was quite a guy who, it seems, was born for his role as the larger than life submarine skipper of The Wahoo. The exploits of this submarine helped to signal the American will to survive and conquer the Japanese enemy after their tragic and treacherous attack on Pearl Harbor. Although Mush Morton was somewhat controversial to the brass, I could see why his men generally loved and respected him. Imagine your skipper cruising through the crew quarters in nothing but a red bathrobe to shoot the breeze, and make you feel like you matter. No wonder he accomplished so much in so little time.
